The church was converted into a mosque during the Ottoman period, and a minaret was added to its southwestern corner. The monument is built in calcareous stone with compressive strength (EN 1926) in the range of 5-9 MPa and splitting tensile strength (ASTM D3967-01) around 1 MPa. The aforementioned tests for the characterization of the monument's stone were carried out in 2016, in the framework of a combined laboratory and in situ investigation that was conducted to determine the physico-mechanical and mineralogical characteristics of the building materials of the Cami-I Kebir Mosque. Sampling and testing was assigned to the Building Materials and LEDRA Laboratories of the University of Cyprus by Chrysanthos Pissarides (Architect) and Paris Skouloukos (Civil Engineer), on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme – Partnership for the Future, which is funded by the European Union. The church is built within an area fortified by an arrow-shaped bastion (Martinengo Bastion – Tophane), at close vicinity to other important religious monuments (St. Mary Church of the Armenians, Tanner’s Mosque and St. Anne Church of the Maronites). It is a Gothic style stone masonry structure. Title A name given to the resource Panagia Apsinthiotissa Monastery Description An account of the resource The Panagia Apsinthiotissa Monastery is situated on the southern foothills of the Pentadaktylos Mountains, near the village of Sichari/Kaynakkoy (GPS identification: X: 35.283905, Y: 33.389065). The site comprises of a Byzantine Church and a Refectory, as well as more recent single-storey monastic rooms that were built after the 17th century. The masonry is composed of irregularly sized undressed sedimentary stones and is characterized by the absence of clearly defined horizontal bedding orientations. Title A name given to the resource Medieval Manor of Potamia, Nicosia Description An account of the resource The Medieval Manor of Potamia is a composite building complex, which incorporates stone and adobe masonry structures dating from the 14th to the 20th century. The Manor occupies a plan area >5500 m2. Although the west part of the building complex has rather recently been restored, the east part remains in a ruinous condition. The two aforementioned parts are separated by a courtyard that includes the remnants of a large water tank and a well. The east part mainly consists of one-storey high stone masonry constructions dated to the 14th-16th century, with several later modifications/additions of stone and adobes. The Monastery was founded in the early 11th century and it consists of an irregular rectangle of two-storied residential buildings constructed around a central precinct, and two small churches or chapels, which appear to be the remains of the side aisles of a larger church . Title A name given to the resource Listed Monument (Plot 345), Pera Orinis Description An account of the resource Listed monument building located in the village of Pera Orinis (ca. 280 m from the river Pedieos). The locals refer to this building as “Kafenedes tou Christou” (Christos coffeeshop). In fact, the building used to serve as a traditional coffeeshop and trade center for the village before the 1950s. On the monument, there is an inscription ‘’1894 Τ.Π.’’, which is likely the date that the structure was originally built. The building seems to have been built in different phases and it consists of 3 parts; 2 typical double spaces (dichoro), each with an arch in the middle, and an L-shape 2 story building. It has an interior garden space with an exterior stone staircase leading to the (second story) upper floor, where the bedrooms were originally located. The main construction material is local (igneous and sedimentary) stone. The upper floor is constructed with mud bricks. Tests performed in-situ with a Rebound Hammer, as per ASTM C805 and ASTM D5873, to estimate the strength of various stone blocks, resulted in an average compressive strength >100 MPa for the basalt and dolerite and 5-15 MPa for the limestone. Gypsum mortars were also identified based on XRD analyses. The aforementioned tests were carried out in 2024, in the framework of a combined laboratory and in situ investigation that was conducted to determine the physico-mechanical and mineralogical characteristics of the building materials of the monument. Sampling and testing was assigned to the Building Materials and LEDRA Laboratories of the University of Cyprus by SYRITA HOMES, owner of the monument.
